How It Happened Michael Koryta Books
I was so looking forward to this new novel by Michael Koryta, and I was not disappointed! Most of the novel and all of the action takes place in a small coastal town in Maine, and it is done so well that the town is really one of the characters. Koryta makes you feel like you are right there, too. It's kind of a thinking person's whodunit, even a bit slow in the beginning, and I didn't figure it out until close to the end after being shown multiple clues. The actual ending is chilling and action packed -- I found myself holding my breath! No cliffhanger here. Koryta knows how to hold his readers' attention. I loved it. I may have missed a couple of his books over the years, and now I'm going to find them and read them. This writer knows how to plot and how to make his readers care about the characters and appreciate the location. Don't miss this one!Tags : Amazon.com: How It Happened (9780316293938): Michael Koryta: Books,Michael Koryta,How It Happened,Little, Brown and Company,0316293938,Crime,Thrillers - General,Thrillers - Suspense,Accomplices,Detective and mystery fiction,Drug addicts,FICTION Crime.,FICTION Thrillers Suspense.,Government investigators,Maine,Murder,Murder - Investigation,Murder;Investigation;Fiction.,Small cities - Maine,Suspense fiction,Thrillers (Fiction),United States - Employees,AMERICAN MYSTERY & SUSPENSE FICTION,FICTION Crime,FICTION Thrillers General,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,Fiction,Fiction-Thriller,FictionCrime,GENERAL,General Adult,MysterySuspense,United States,thriller; mystery; suspense; FBI; crime; rise the dark; those who wish me dead; lee child; david baldacci; michael connelly; daniel silva; murder; bestselling thrillers; best new thrillers,thriller; mystery; suspense; FBI; crime; rise the dark; those who wish me dead; lee child; david baldacci; michael connelly; daniel silva; murder; bestselling thrillers; best new thrillers
How It Happened Michael Koryta Books Reviews
Twists and turns on every page in a fantastic murder mystery that I couldn't read fast enough!
I think Koryta is one of the most skilled suspense writers working today. Each of his books are widely creative and unexpected and HOW IT HAPPENED is no exception. Koryta gives us an inside view of the opioid crisis while also giving us a great story with an unreliable narrator and a very twisty, scary plot. But the best part of Koryta's books is the writing. True literary fiction that keeps you at the edge of your seat.
I did really like this story. It is very involved and will keep your mind following along through all of the confusion, and in the end perhaps the author left me with a remaining doubt on purpose? I'm not sure. Perhaps it's just me. You'll need to read it and decided for yourself.
Twists and turns abound, but are always centered on what emerges as fact. Nothing is outrageous and everything ultimately believable.
Very well done with a good ending. The characters were believable and well developed. The description of the Maine coast was interesting. I have read several books by MK and they have all been good. This one was no exception.
The ingredients of a top-notch thriller include
** an opening scene that grabs attention;
** believable characters who act in plausible ways;
** a steady drumbeat of revelations that build suspense;
** and a fiendishly complex plot that is only resolved as the novel comes to a close.
The latest thriller from Michael Koryta, How It Happened, fits the bill in all these respects.
As the novel opens, a young woman named Kimberly (Kimmy) Crepeaux is confessing to taking part in a pair of gruesome murders. Rob Barrett, the FBI agent sent to Maine to interview her, has finally found his patience paying off. Now, after two months of interrogating Kimmy, he finally understands what happened. Or does he?
When Rob and his local partner, Lieutenant Don Johansson of the Maine State Police, go to a nearby pond to uncover the bodies, there are no bodies to be found. Rob's expertise is confessions, and he is absolutely convinced Kimmy is telling the truth. But the missing bodies represent the only evidence to substantiate the story she tells. Now what?
Things go from bad to worse for Rob as word spreads throughout town that Kimmy has accused a widely respected businessman of orchestrating the murders. No one else, including Don Johansson, believes her. As the story unfolds, Rob doggedly pursues the case, putting his career, and eventually his life, on the line. Koryta does a fine job telling this deeply engaging story. This novel is, indeed, a top-notch thriller.
As I write, Michael Koryta is 35 years old. From 2004 to 2018, he wrote 13 novels. The first of those novels was published when he was 21. How It Happened is the most recent. He is a former private investigator and newspaper reporter.
How it happened is not only the title but the essence of the book. From the beginning, the author put you in the middle of a puzzle, challenging you to figure it out. Guessing what would happen, enjoying the characters' makeup made for an enjoyable, stimulating read.
