Girls' Night Out A Novel Liz Fenton Lisa Steinke 9781503902565 Books
“Girls Night Out” by Liz Fenton & Lisa Steinke is a captivating, intriguing, intense, edgy and thought-provoking novel. The Genres for this story are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, Mystery, Suspense and Thriller. The timeline of the story is in the present and goes back to the past when it pertains to the events or characters in the story. The setting of the story takes place in Mexico. I love the way both authors vividly describe the breath-taking beauty and scenery of the setting, and landscape. This makes a perfect background for the story. The author describes her characters as complex, and complicated. There are secrets, betrayals, lies and twists and turns. Ashley, Natalie and Lauren had been good friends for twenty years, and have grown apart. What seems to exist now is a toxic, dysfunctional, relationship riddled with anger, hostility and jealousy. Each of the three have their own significant problems. Ashley brings up the idea of having a “Girls Vacation” in Mexico, hoping that the three can work out their differences. What starts out as a promising premise, slowly turns into a nightmare.
The ancient and beautiful scenery described in Tulum Mexico has me ready to pack my bags, and book a flight. The relaxing views, or the historic architecture to explore, sounds worth the journey. What better place to be than with old friends? Originally that was Ashley’s idea to mend fences and friendships during such a vacation together. The problem is, does anyone really know everything about their friends?
After a night of drinking and arguing, Natalie finds herself on the beach, wet from the water and full of sand, with a terrible headache.Natalie doesn’t remember why she is on the beach or what happened. She goes back to her room and finds that Ashley is missing. Frantically, she goes to Lauren’s room, and both start looking for Ashley.
Both Natalie and Lauren regret their behavior and have feelings of guilt as the search for Ashley goes on. The Mexican police is called and each of the girls is questioned thoroughly. The key may be in Natalie’s blocked memories.
I love that the authors discuss the importance of friendship, honesty, loyalty, and communication. I want to hug my friends this minute, and tell them how I appreciate them. I would highly recommend this amazing novel to readers that appreciate suspense, mystery and adventure. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.

Girls' Night Out A Novel Liz Fenton Lisa Steinke 9781503902565 Books Reviews
Awesome book my only complaint is that it was a bit repetitive with the drama. I found myself skipping parts (which is a big no no for me) because I had already read that several times through the book. This is told from 3 POV’s. It follows these 3 women (old time friends) through a trip to Tulum, Mexico to rekindle their friendship when one of them goes missing. The ending brought a little redemption to the repetitiveness of it! Great Summer read!!
I had no idea where this was going but I could not stop reading! Killed an entire rainy day racing to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The characters so fleshed out it was like I was there. Great job, gals! I was into this hook, line and sinker. And, Mexico was like it's own character. Beautiful, exotic, fun and yet dangerous all at once.
Three fortyish women, formerly best friends, spend a long weekend at a glamorous resort near Cancun, Mexico, in an effort to repair their relationship. What could possibly go wrong? The premise of GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT sounds intriguing, and for a few chapters, the book delivers. An intriguing combination of chick lit and mystery slowly begins to fizzle in a long, drawn out story filled with boring, dysfunctional characters.
Ashley, Natalie and Lauren were a tight-knit trio for several years until something happened to cause a rift, leaving Lauren on the outside looking in. Perhaps getting the threesome together at a luxurious resort on the Mexican Gold Coast will reboot the friendship, decides Ashley, who springs for an all-expenses-paid trip to Tulum. Psst I want Ashley as MY friend!
They eat, they drink, they dance, they pick up men, they argue, they laugh, they cry in the midst of a Mexican paradise. As I continued to read, I realized that the book could have been an episode of Real Housewives. I even began to associate faces of the Orange County women with the characters in the book.
Another similarity to the Housewives franchises none of the characters in the book is likable. Ashley and Natalie are entrepreneurs; Lauren, a widow, is living off her husband’s life insurance. Natalie had invented a revolutionary way to style hair while drying it, which sounds like the dryer/brush combination found at a store near you. Between Ashley’s shining manipulative personality and Natalie’s brains, the two women started a now-successful company called BloMe (clever, eh?). I mention “BloMe” only because the authors do ad nauseam.
The trio limps along attempting to repair itself when Ashley mysteriously disappears. Natalie and Lauren immediately suspect Marco Smith, a handsome, yet sleazy guy Ashley had quickly bonded with. The mystery begins. While everyone searches for Ashley, Lauren and Ashley begin to re-bond over shared secrets.
I could have enjoyed the trite story if it had been shorter...much shorter...and if one character were likable and believable. Even the deep dark secrets the women spilled were uninteresting. I was so bored that I didn’t much care what happened to Ashley. I take no pleasure in writing negative reviews. These authors have written a book I loved, and they will do so again. GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT is not their best.
Fabulous book that will have you guessing until the very last page. Friendships and marriages are tested and broken open as this mystery unravels.
I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT, which focuses on 3 long-time friends taking a trip to Tulum, Mexico in an effort to get their friendships back on track. Drinking, sand, and sun with your girlfriends - sounds like a fun time, sÃ? But not-so-much since these ladies have issues they need to sort out, and especially not when Ashley never turns up the next morning after their girls’ night out. (No spoiler. It's in the blurb!) The time line switches back and forth from when Natalie discovers Ashley isn't in their hotel room and begins looking for her, to the previous few days of the trip. You'll be turning pages quickly trying to figure out what went wrong with these 3 friends, and what the heck happened to Ashley?? I must say, I didn't see that ending coming!
I've read all of Liz & Lisa's books and the duo just keeps getting better and better!
